Thomas Kayl

Thomas entered the Army 2005 as a motor transport operator. He was stationed at FT Drum NY where and deployed to Afghanistan 06-07 and Iraq 07-09. He had a change of duty to FT Bragg NC where he again deployed to Afghanistan 10-11. During his time in service, he suffered multiple traumatic brain injuries which led to him being medically retired after being released from the brain clinic at FT Bragg.

“I retired in 2014 and have had a long road to recovery where I had no guidance. I utilized the VA care teams and learned to read, write, and walk. I went to speech therapy for 9 years and am still doing treatments to try to improve on my way of life. I have my wife of 19 years and my three daughters that kept me going. When my family relocated to Texas I connected with Victor and the TBI Warrior Foundation. Through all my years of retirement I have not been included in such a pure honest and caring organization. There are a lot of different organizations but none made me feel like I was really a part and not a number to add to their books or a burden. So, with that, I had to become a part of the team.”
